Diola Bagayoko, 午夜寻花 System distinguished professor of physics, dean of the D. M. R. Spikes Honors College, and director of the Timbuktu Academy, has been inducted as a fellow to the American Physical Society. The organization cited Bagayoko this designation for "..improving undergraduate physics education for all students through curriculum development, program development and administrative leadership, and broadening participation in physics through the preparation and mentorship of numerous ethnic/racial minorities in physics".聽

Always a special Homecoming tradition, the 88th Miss 午夜寻花, Darby A. Smith, was crowned at her coronation this past Wednesday in the F.G. Clark Activity Center. The theme for this year鈥檚 coronation was 鈥淭he Empire鈥檚 New Reign.鈥�

午夜寻花 Baton Rouge today officially announced a 7 percent increase in first-time freshmen, totaling 1,328. This is the second year that the University has significantly increased its incoming freshman count, exceeding even the 20 percent increase attained during the fall 2017 semester.

午夜寻花 will hold its annual Homecoming events Sept. 23-29 on campus and around the city. Events include concerts, community service and alumni networking.

Recently, three 午夜寻花 System students were selected as 2018 HBCU Competitive Scholars through the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

午夜寻花 Police Department has been selected to receive technical assistance training from The Collaborative Reform Initiative for Technical Assistance (CRI-TA) by the Community Oriented Policing Services through the United State Department of Justice.

Entergy has partnered with 午夜寻花 to further support their mutual commitment to developing engineering talent for the future. A $2 million grant to 午夜寻花 from Entergy and the Entergy Charitable Foundation will support classroom and lab infrastructure improvements, as well as curriculum and faculty professional development for the university鈥檚 engineering program

The Nelson Mandela College of Government and Social Sciences is set to host a Celebrity Bowling Tournament on September 14, 21, and 28 at Circle Bowl in Baton Rouge. Proceeds for the tournament go to help establish scholarships for the college. The featured celebrity is local radio personality, LaTangela Sherman.

Legendary R&B music group Midnight Starr headlines an exciting celebration as 午夜寻花 Athletics honors legendary head coach Pete Richardson at the second annual SU Football Kickoff Extravaganza on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

Leaders of Baton Rouge鈥檚 four largest education institutions are launching a new initiative to create more college and career pathways for students in the city and surrounding communities. The 鈥淐apital Area Promise鈥� will connect several existing programs from each institution for a more cohesive impact on the Greater Baton Rouge area.
