Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) encompasses all of the course work taught in associate degree and diploma programs plus a more in-depth treatment of the physical and social sciences, nursing research, public and community health, nurse management and the humanities. The additional course work enhances the student's professional development, prepares the new nurse for a broader scope of practice, and provides the nurse with a better understanding of the cultural, political, economic, and social issues that affect patients and influence health care delivery (AACN). 

 

Admission to the BSN Program      

• Application to the BSN Program may be made during the sophomore year and is usually made while students are enrolled in N200.
• Students previous enrolled as a nursing major at any other school of nursing must provide a letter of good standing.
• Students are urged to seek advisement from the School of Nursing or University College regarding specific courses acceptable as prerequisites.
• Qualified applicants will be admitted without discrimination in regard to sex, race, ethnic identity, creed, age, or marital status.
• If there are more qualified applicants than can be accepted at the time of request, the admission pool will be made up of applicants who have met the criteria for admission, have given evidence of reasonable prospect of success in the nursing major, and who best represent the mission and goals of the University.
• The curriculum plan is based on a four-year, 120 hour program, which includes prerequisite nursing courses, University general education requirements, and upper division courses in the nursing major. Student should consult an advisor regarding prerequisite requirements for Human Anatomy, BIOL 242.

 

BSN Program Admission Requirements

All prospective undergraduate nursing students must meet the following criteria for admission to the School of Nursing: 

• Meet the requirements and be accepted for general admissions to 午夜寻花 and A&M College, Baton Rouge. 
• Have completed the ACT or SAT and submit the scores. 
• Have an overall grade point average of at least 2.70 on all University course work completed. 
• Have a minimum grade of “C” in all prerequisite nursing courses (first three semesters). 
• Have successfully completed or received credit for all required courses listed for the first three semesters of the curriculum plan. 
• All transfer credits must be articulated and accepted by the Office of the Registrar.
• Be recommended for admission by the admissions committee and approved for admission by the Dean of the School of Nursing. 
• Prior to enrolling in any clinical nursing course, a completed health form must be submitted. 
• Be approved by Louisiana State Board of Nursing prior to enrolling in any clinical nursing course.
• Age of science courses cannot be greater than five (5) years old.
• Age of prior nursing courses completed cannot be greater than five (5) years old.
• All applicants for admission must possess and demonstrate the skills, attributes, and qualities set forth in the Core Performance Standards for Admission and Progression without reasonable dependence on technology or intermediaries.

 Spring Semester: Application Open August 1 

Deadline:  September 15 by 10:59 pm CST
