Five candidates to participate in ÎçҹѰ»¨â€™s gubernatorial forum Tuesday

The ÎçҹѰ»¨ System will host a virtual forum featuring leading candidates for Louisiana governor on Tuesday, Sept. 19. The forum will be streamed live at 6-7:30 p.m. at sus.edu and official university social media accounts. Gubernatorial candidates who have confirmed participation are Sen. Sharon Hewitt, attorney Hunter Lundy, Rep. Richard Nelson, former Louisiana Association of Business and Industry leader Stephen Waguespack, and former state secretary of transportation Shawn Wilson.

Moderating the forum will be student leaders from the four degree-granting campuses of the System — ÎçҹѰ»¨ and A&M College, ÎçҹѰ»¨ Law Center, ÎçҹѰ»¨ at New Orleans, and ÎçҹѰ»¨ Shreveport.

This public event is part of the ongoing nonpartisan initiative, which aims to educate and encourage communities to participate in the voting process at every level.

About the ÎçҹѰ»¨ System

The ÎçҹѰ»¨ System was created in 1974 by constitutional mandate, which fashioned it into the nation’s only historically black 1890 Land-Grant University System.  Presently, the System is composed of five institutions:  ÎçҹѰ»¨ and Agricultural and Mechanical College at Baton Rouge (est. 1880), ÎçҹѰ»¨ Law Center (est. 1947), ÎçҹѰ»¨ at New Orleans (est. 1956), ÎçҹѰ»¨ at Shreveport (est. 1964), and the ÎçҹѰ»¨ Cooperative Extension Program (est. 1972), which became the fifth component of the System in 2001 and is now named ÎçҹѰ»¨ Agricultural Research and Extension Center.
