Construction begins on new public safety building at ÎçҹѰ»¨

Construction has started on a new public safety building at ÎçҹѰ»¨. Administrators, faculty, and staff held a groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 17 to mark the beginning of the project, which will serve as the new headquarters for the ÎçҹѰ»¨ Police Department.

The one-story, 4,021-square-foot facility will be the first new police station built on campus in more than 70 years. Located near the student dormitories, the building aims to enhance campus safety.

“The students should be very excited because they know there will be watchful eyes over them, and they’re always concerned about their safety on this campus,” said ÎçҹѰ»¨ Chancellor John K. Pierre.

ÎçҹѰ»¨ Police Chief Joycelynn Johnson expressed her enthusiasm about the new facility, stating, “This new building is really going to make a difference for us, and we really appreciate it.”

The project is funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund and Title III, with completion expected next year.
